A National response to Ransomware Attacks

Ransomware attacks are leading to national & international responses felt Mandiant CEO Kevin Mandia. And a good instance to prove his point was the seizure of servers operating for REvil ransomware group that offered ransomware as a service to the world from Russia.

ā€œIts good that the governments have noticed the seriousness in the attacks linked to file encrypting malware and the way Joe Biden reacted when JBS Meat and Colonial Pipeline were targeted last year acts as a good example to prove the pointā€, said Kevin.

Kevin added that companies have acted proactively against cyber threats such as ransomware and this can prove discouraging for criminals involved in the said digital crime.

In August 2021, a report published by the International Data Corp stated that one-third of organizations worldwide were targeted by a ransomware attack propelled by data breach in the past 12 months.

And the encouraging fact in this scenario is that governments have launched a coordinated response on national and international level because of ransomware, said Mr. Mandia.

Speaking at the CNBC sponsored Technology Executive Council (TEC) Summit held in New York; Kevin Mandia felt that public and private entities should start bolstering their defense line against cyber assaults proactively.

At the same time, Kevin wanted the Biden administration to act strong against adversary nations, launching ransomware and other type of cyber threats on national infrastructure.

A kind of doctrine should be pressed into service to prevent nations from launching cyber warfare that could prove devastating to nations felt Mandiaā€¦.. very trueā€¦ isnā€™t it?
