Fake Twitter scam promises Cryptocurrency earnings

Twitter IDs operating across the world including the ones operated by the government agencies are reportedly falling prey to a new ponzi scam where scamsters are promising cryptocurrency earnings to those who transfer them 0.01BTC.

The tweets which are being witnessed on renowned and verified accounts states “We are celebrating and giving away N Bitcoins to our fans! Just transfer 0.01BTC to the wallet below and we will return 0.1BTC!”

Certain Twitter handles such as the one operated by Tesla chief Elon Musk have some comments which promote fake digital currency giveaway- I sent 0.5BTC and got back 5 bitcoins in return.

News is out that this suspicious activity is taking place since one week where crypto scammers are attacking verifying account, changing their profile picture to Elon Musk to promote fake Cryptocurrency.

As the tweets look promotional content from the verified accounts, they are said to be ducking Twitter’s moderation and spam filters.

Some tweets even claim that Elon Musk the Tesla company founder is giving free 1000 Bitcoins to the Twitter community as he resigned to the post of director recently. A few of the tweets also mention that Musk will give away Ethereum currency after his BTC reserves get exhausted.

After three days of experimenting with the impersonating twitter ID of Elon Musk, the scamsters then began exploiting other Twitter celebrities like Bill Gates, Pavel Durov( telegram founder), Vitalik Buterin( Creator of Ethereum Currency), Capgemini Australia and Target along with Good360.

So, all you guys out there who are super-active on Twitter you better be aware of such scams before it’s too late!
