Google asks users to be aware of Phishing Attacks on Google Drive

Google is urging users to beware of the phishing attacks that are taking place on Google Drive. In what is known to our Cybersecurity Insiders, hackers are seen launching phishing campaigns against Google Drive users by sending them email’s filled with malicious links and locking them from their accounts thereafter.

Going by the details, a Google Docs Link is first sent to a victim that appears to be a legitimate one. And when a victim clicks on the link, a web page hosted on a Google Database opens that appears to be a word doc.

The content in the webpage states to fill in some details to have future access to the cloud-based account that has been blocked due to some security reasons. And when the user fills in the details, their access to Google’s online services is completely blocked.

Internet Juggernaut is asking victims to never click or respond to emails that ask to fill in details as it can cause harm to their computing devices as well as their online accounts.

Threat detection firm Avanan was the first to notify the users about the phishing campaign taking place worldwide and said that the phishing emails might also be loaded with links that when clicked could inject the device with malware.

In the year 2019, Trend Micro detected over 61.2 billion cyber threats targeting online users via emails. And the following year, i.e. in 2020 when the whole world started to work remotely, the threat graph witnessed an increase of 91% with over 113 billion cyber threats hitting users of cyberspace.
