Ransomware spread witnesses a year on year growth

SonicWall, a San Jose based security firm has concluded in its recent survey that Malware and ransomware spread is witnessing a year on year growth. The cyber security company says that it detected a 44% growth in the amount of malware infecting user’s machines between January and October this year. At the same time, the company which is headquartered in California says that its research confirms a 117% increase in Ransomware spread.

Researchers came to the above said conclusion after analyzing over 300,000 attack variants in 2018 which breaks down to 1,095 attacks each day. Surprisingly, over 50K attack variants have never been seen before.

SonicWall research says that ransomware targets are no longer limited to large enterprises as most of the targets in this year have been the SMBs.

Note- The data on the 2018 Ransomware related Cyber Threats was sourced from SonicWall Capture Threat Network which gathers info from more than 1 million sensors located in nearly 200 countries and territories. This includes data gathered from Firewalls, email security solutions, endpoint security solutions, honeypots and content filtering systems.
