The ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia has escalated, with a Pro-Ukrainian hacking group reportedly launching a cyber attack targeting Russia’s medical infrastructure. The attack has led to significant disruptions, including the closure of hundreds of pharmacies and hospitals. In one incident, a pregnant woman tragically died in a maternity hospital, though investigations are still underway to confirm the cause.
As innocent lives continue to be affected by the conflict, many international observers, including nations like the UK and the US, are calling for diplomatic interventions and peace talks to halt the violence.
Focusing on the details of the cyber attack, Stolichki Pharmacy, which operates numerous stores across Moscow and Russia, was forced to shut down over 900 locations. Similarly, Neofarm, another major pharmacy chain, experienced widespread disruptions. According to reports, a hacking group known as Silent Crow, working in coordination with the Cyber Partisans, launched a cyber assault on July 28, 2025, gaining access to the servers of Russia’s flagship airliner, Aeroflot.
The attacks, which targeted critical infrastructure in Russia, also affected pharmacies and a maternity hospital—significant institutions within the healthcare system. Experts warn that if the attacks continue, Russia’s digital infrastructure could face severe disruptions in the coming weeks, potentially harming civilians and deepening the crisis.
On the other hand, Ukrainian authorities have defended the actions of the hacking groups, describing them as retaliatory measures in response to the Russian airstrike on a prison in Zaporizhzhia. The attack, which occurred earlier in July, killed 16 people and injured over 100 others. Ukrainian officials have also rejected Russian media reports, claiming they have manipulated images of the maternity hospital incident to depict a location in Moscow, when in fact, the death occurred in a facility in Dnipro.
In a related development, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed support for US President Donald Trump’s recent proposal to expedite an end to the conflict. On July 29, 2025, the White House announced a new timeline for concluding the war, reducing the proposed 50-day period to just 15 days. Zelenskyy welcomed the move, emphasizing that if President Vladimir Putin does not adjust his stance, Russia could face severe economic and social sanctions, which would have widespread consequences for the Russian population.
As tensions continue to rise, global leaders are watching closely, urging both sides to consider diplomatic solutions and reduce the human cost of the war.
