Upstox, an Indian stock brokering company is trending on Google for a data breach that is reported to have impacted over 2.5 million of its users. News is out that the company has now upgraded its IT architecture on recommendation given by an internationally recognized Cybersecurity firm.
Rajashekar Rajaharia, an independent security researcher, revealed that Upstox 56 million KYC data files are available on dark web for sale from April 11,2021. And the leaked data that was accessed and copied by a hacker group named ShinyHunters includes critical details such as PAN, passport, date of birth and email IDs.
FYI, Shiny Hunters is the same hackers group that launched cyber attacks last year on companies like BigBasket, JusPay, Chqbook, and Dunzo.
In the past few weeks, companies like Mobikwik, LinkedIn and Facebook were also targeted by sophisticated cyber attacks leaking data of more than 100 million,105 million and 500 million on respective note and Upstox has joined this list on April 12th,2021.
Note 1- A business subsidiary of RKSV, Upstox offers web trading and desktop trading services to over 30 million users across India.
Note 2- According to an IBM security report, over 20,500 websites were targeted through cyber attacks in 2019 and the situation deteriorated even further last year as 23,000 Indian websites were hacked in 2020 as per the report released by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In).
