Russia is trying to destabilize Germany through Cyber Attacks

German Intelligence Agency (GIA) has accused Russia of the disinformation campaign and hacking ahead of its 2017 Elections. After BREXIT, Germany will obviously emerge as EUā€™s biggest economy. And so Moscow is said to be targeting the nation with cyber espionage to weaken the Federal Republic.

Hans-Georg Maassen, the head of GIA said on Thursday that Germany has secured enough evidence against the federal nation to prove the allegation as a fact. He added that Moscow was the nation which orchestrated cyber attacks on the United States before US 2016 elections.

According to a German media source, Russia is conducting cyber espionage on top politicians of Germany in order to gather information which could be used to discredit them in next 2017 General Elections. The media source added that the main aim of Russia will be to influence the political dialogue.

Germany plans to take up the task of its National Election in September 2017. The date will be revealed by February next year.

On the other hand, Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for Russian President Vladimir Putin has denied the role of his nation in any of the cyber attacks carried out on other nations. Instead, Mr. Peskov said that Russiaā€™s critical infrastructure was under a cyber attack threat jointly orchestrated by US and Germany.

Dmitry added that Kremlin has enough evidence about foreign governments plotting a massive cyber attack against his nationā€™s financial system. Russia has already made it to the press that US government has launched a cyber attack on its banking systems through Ukraine Hosting Company. As the attack was detected on time by the national cyber security team, a major threat to Russiaā€™s economic and information security was neutralized.

A couple of years ago, US and China made a deal that they will not launch cyber attacks against each other.

Maybe now is the right time for Germany and Russia to make such agreement.
