Britain’s renowned law firm Anthony Gold is said to have become a victim of a cyber attack on Monday this week. And as per the sources reporting to Cybersecurity Insiders, a hackers group is said to have hijacked the email server of the law firm to send 16,000 emails to almost all the clients of the law firm.
Fortunately, most of the email recipients who received the email with the subject line “Action required- Matter of Attention” contacted the company on an immediate note. And the officials of the law firm advised them to delete the email and do not open the file attached to the email in any case.
David Marshall, the Managing Partner of Anthony Gold Solicitors admitted that his firm became a victim of Phishing Email Cyber Attack where hackers managed to send emails attached with an infected file to around 16K mail addresses.
Marshall said that the law enforcement has been pressed into service to probe into the attack and a Prima Facie is expected to be ready by this weekend.
Peter Wright, the Managing Director of the UK technology firm DigitalLaw said that the apparent aim of hackers in sending such emails is to persuade clients to reveal log-in details in order to defraud them.
He added that previously, such emails had the potential to victimizing many. But now the scenario has changed as the media and the cybersecurity companies have managed to successfully create awareness among web users on what is happening in the cyberspace.
