Data is the lifeblood of today’s businesses, and protecting this data is not only
becoming more important but also more difficult as data is leaving the traditional
perimeter in a cloud-first, mobile connected world.
The 2020 Data Security Report reveals how enterprises are protecting sensitive data in a
cloud-first world, including key drivers, adoption trends, technologies, investments, and
benefits. While virtually all organizations in our survey agree on the importance of data
security, many are struggling with reducing their vulnerability to attacks and data breaches.
To provide this information, we surveyed cybersecurity professionals ranging from
technical executives to IT security practitioners, representing a balanced cross-section of
organizations of various sizes across multiple industries.
Key survey findings include:
- 93% of respondents state that data protection is very to extremely important to their security strategy.
- However, 51% of respondents state that their organization is somewhat vulnerable to extremely vulnerable to data breaches.
- The biggest threats to sensitive data are phishing attacks (55%) and insider threats resulting in data exfiltration (42%).
- Surprisingly, over 24% of respondents don’t use multi-factor authentication to secure access to data and apps.
