Hackers target over 330 Britons a minute, says research

Research conducted by Nord VPN says about 330 Britons are hacked every minute, i.e. one Brit, for every 0.2 seconds. Concernedly, the hacking has gone on a rampage and is increasing at epic proportions.

In the past 12 months, one in ten people in the UK is falling prey to money thefts, bank account information theft, or financial data siphoning conducted by organized criminals and cyber crooks.

Worryingly, the same number of people are also falling prey to ransomware attacks where the victim needs to pay a ransom to free up their computer data storage from encryption. A trend observed to date in the corporate world.

Some attacks take place often, after which victims stop treating them as cyber crimes. Like scams where hackers try to coax customers into submitting their financial details and malicious pop-ups that either spread malware payloads or result in data theft.

All such crimes have one similar thing in common and that is a criminal is behind the incident and is interested in making money by all means.

Email spamming, email phishing, hacking of email accounts to steal confidential data, and cloning sim cards to conduct crime- all lead to being called cybercrime.

Being vigilant, learning how the cyber landscape is constantly changing by keeping a tab of news headlines on a regular note, using genuine software on devices, downloading apps from reliable sources, never clicking on links sent by unknown senders via SMS or email, and keeping the device offline when not in use will make sense.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg also follows a security procedure of shutting down his laptop when not in use and keeping his microphone n web camera concealed with cloth and tape also suggests how deep hacking techniques have evolved with time.
