Orange Telecom Hit by Cyberattack

Orange, one of France’s largest telecommunications providers and a significant player in Europe, has confirmed that its internal servers were compromised in a cyberattack. Initial reports suggest that the incident is a double extortion attack.

In a double extortion scheme, cybercriminals first steal sensitive data and encrypt it. They demand a ransom for the decryption key, and if the payment isn’t made or is delayed, they leak the stolen data online for financial gain.

While Orange insists that no data was extracted from its servers, sources close to the investigation indicate that the attack may have been carried out using malware. What’s more troubling is that the attackers managed to breach the network’s core, accessing data stored within the satellite communication infrastructure.

The hacking group Salt Typhoon, which has previously targeted over 12 telecom networks in the U.S., is suspected to be behind the attack.

TEA Dating App Exposes Data of Over 10,000 Female Users

TEA, a popular dating app primarily used by women, has been caught up in a significant data breach. Hackers stole sensitive information, including selfies, from more than 10,000 female users, raising fears of identity theft and online harassment.

In addition to personal photos, the attackers reportedly accessed survey data collected by TEA, which included responses from women about their dating experiences. The company has acknowledged the breach and is conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.

FBI Seeks Court Approval to Access $2.4 Million Seized from Chaos Ransomware Group

The FBI, in collaboration with Europol, recently executed an operation dubbed “Operation Checkmate.” The operation resulted in the seizure of IT infrastructure linked to the BlackCat Ransomware group, also known as BlackSuit or Royal Ransomware. The FBI is now seeking court approval to liquidate $2.4 million in cryptocurrency seized from the group during the operation.

Dell Confirms Data Breach Involving World Leaks Gang

Dell Technologies has acknowledged that its servers were infiltrated by hackers from the World Leaks group, a spin-off of the notorious Hunters International Ransomware gang. As a result of the breach, more than 1.3 terabytes of sensitive information were leaked online.

Reports suggest that the group initially demanded a ransom before halting the publication of approximately 400,000 stolen files on the dark web. The leaked data reportedly includes automation scripts, browser profiles, backup details, and system logs. However, Dell has clarified that only servers related to its Customer Solutions Center were affected and disputes the broader scope of the leak.

Gartner Forecasts $200 Billion Boost for Cybersecurity Investments by 2025

Gartner, the global research firm, predicts that cybersecurity investments will surge by $200 billion in 2025. This marks a $50 billion increase over 2023’s record of $160 billion. The growth is attributed to the rising use of AI-driven platforms and generative AI technologies, both by businesses looking to secure their systems and cybercriminals launching more sophisticated, AI-powered attacks with high success rates.
