DraftKings becomes a victim of DDoS Cyber Attack

Boston based Sports betting contest provider DraftKings has released an official statement yesterday which says that it has become a victim of a Cyber Attack. The company says that it has become a victim of a distributed denial of service attack in early last month that is of increasing concern to businesses these days.

DraftKings has filed a case in the court asking the judge the permission to conduct a discovery process with a number of companies that own the IP address responsible for the incident. When discovered, the sports fantasy contest provider is in an intention to block all future attacks from the cyber assailants through proper channel in near future.

R. Stanton Dodge, the Chief Legal Officer of DraftKings has confirmed the news and said that the crime doers will be punished on a severe note upon identification.

According to the sources reporting to Cybersecurity Insiders, the attack took place on August 7th, 2018 which the company thwarted off without getting disrupted. But the attacker/s who launched the attack again tried to bomb the servers of the gaming contest holder with irrelevant web traffic which resulted in a downtime of almost one hour 4 minutes.

As the NFL season is about to start, DraftKings is in no mood to entertain such attacks. So, is planning to nip all such attacks from buds before anything serious could take place. It’s also inquiring whether any insider’s threat was involved in the attack, as the DDoS attack took place just a day after the sports betting launch ( i.e. on Aug 6th,2018).

On Friday last week, Judge Mark L Wolf granted permission to DraftKings to obtain user info connected to the malicious IP addresses; but also notified a clause that the permission could be reverted if the internet companies raise an objection.

Note- Massachusetts based ‘DraftKings’ allows its users to place bets on individual players and team performances in 5 major American Sports-  such as Soccer games, auto racing of Nascar, PGA, all Canadian sports, Mixed Martial Arts and all International acclaimed tennis tournaments.
