Hack The Box Launches AI Range Enterprise Edition to Measure AI Agent Competence in Cybersecurity

Hack The Box (HTB), the leading cybersecurity readiness platform for the human-AI workforce, has launched AI Range Enterprise Edition, extending its industry-first platform for testing and measuring AI security agent effectiveness to enterprise security teams. The solution enables organizations to assess whether their AI agents can fulfill assigned cybersecurity roles and make evidence-based decisions about integrating agents into their workforce.

Organizations routinely evaluate whether employees possess the skills required for their positions, but AI agents may not undergo equivalent assessments. Security teams might deploy agents after they perform well in benchmarks or vendor evaluations without validating their ability to handle the actual tasks they will encounter in ongoing operations. As AI models, software, data inputs and threat landscapes evolve, agent performance can also shift.

In December 2025, HTB launched AI Range, the first platform in the market designed to evaluate AI security agents in controlled cyber environments. The platform has since undergone rigorous testing by AI labs, government customers and hyperscalers. AI Range Enterprise Edition expands on this foundation by introducing a role-based appraisal process that allows security teams to evaluate their own AI agents.

HTB’s Cyber Workforce Development strategy combines human and agent capabilities through two new initiatives:

• Agentic Worker Competence: AI Range Enterprise Edition enables organizations to assess their AI agents against defined cybersecurity roles and establish recurring, evidence-based validation that an agent can perform a specific job to the required standard.

• Agentic Operator Competence Scoring: Through AI-augmented roles, organizations can apply HTB’s proprietary, industry-first scoring system to determine whether cybersecurity professionals have the judgment to challenge AI-generated work and intervene when necessary. AI-augmented penetration tester and SOC analyst roles are available now, with additional cybersecurity roles expected in the coming months.

“As AI takes on more cybersecurity tasks, leaders need confidence in both sides of the workforce,” said Haris Pylarinos, Founder and CEO of Hack The Box. “They need to know that agents can do the jobs they are being given, but they also need people with the expertise and judgment to direct that work, verify it and step in when needed. Building cyber readiness means developing human capability and understanding agent capability together.”

Ongoing Appraisal for AI Agents

HTB’s Agentic Worker Competence methodology establishes whether an AI agent can execute a specific job role to the expected standard in realistic conditions. AI Range Enterprise Edition delivers role-based scores, pass-or-fail outcomes for individual environments and visibility into performance trends over time.

HTB continuously introduces environments reflecting emerging vulnerabilities and attack patterns while preserving the integrity of the appraisal process. Organizations can reassess agents as models, software, data sets and operating conditions evolve, helping them identify whether an agent’s capabilities have improved, deteriorated or remained consistent.

“Connect the agent, assign it a role and let it work,” said Gerasimos Marketos, Chief Product Officer at Hack The Box. “AI Range records how the agent handles the task independently, including where it succeeds and where it struggles. Security leaders can use those results to decide what work an agent is ready to take on and where human oversight is still needed.”

Developing the Judgment to Direct AI

AI agents are increasingly being integrated into routine cybersecurity operations, working alongside human practitioners. As adoption expands, cybersecurity professionals must take greater responsibility for directing agent activities, validating their decisions and intervening when required.

HTB’s AI-augmented roles incorporate these responsibilities into established cybersecurity workflows, helping organizations develop and evaluate the skills professionals need to use AI effectively in disciplines such as penetration testing and security operations. The AI-augmented SOC Analyst role, for example, places practitioners in realistic scenarios where they use AI to review alerts, investigate suspicious activity and assess recommended actions.

Agentic Operator Competence Scoring evaluates the judgment underpinning AI-assisted cybersecurity work through practical scenarios. The assessment examines whether practitioners can identify flaws in an agent’s reasoning, understand the rationale behind its recommendations and determine when intervention is necessary. It also measures their ability to recognize when AI-driven tasks can proceed without unnecessary human involvement.

Industry Recognition

Hack The Box was named a Leader in The Forrester Wave™: Cybersecurity Skills and Training Platforms, Q1 2026, earning the highest possible score in the report’s Agentic AI Readiness criterion. Gartner also recognized HTB as a Sample Vendor for Cyber Ranges in the Hype Cycle for Security Operations, 2026.
