Hackers claim to share footage from over 50,000 home security cameras

To all those using home security cameras, here’s a warning that needs your attention on an urgent note. A hackers group is said to be trumpeting itself on a messaging platform ‘Discord’ that it has access to over 50K security cameras installed in homes and has video access to all these cameras, capturing subjects like children and ladies in compromising or undressing situations.

While it is not clear on how these cyber crooks got hold of the data, the group however boasts itself that it has shared almost 3TB video clips with over 1000 members located around the globe for just a minuscule lifetime access fee of $150.

A user who had access to over 3 videos said that the platform on which the hackers are active is having videos lasting from 16 seconds to over 20 minutes of mostly related to couples, children and ladies who are unaware that they are being monitored while dressing or bathing.

What’s interesting about this perverted video share is that it contains videos of breastfeeding mothers and other victims from around the globe- mostly of those from Thailand, South Korea, Singapore, Canada, Australia and some other parts of Asia like Bangladesh, India and Pakistan. And Premium members are said to be trained on how to explore the videos and record them on their PCs direct from the CCTV cameras.

Poor access to security camera controls and lack of awareness among users in using default credentials on cameras is said to be the primary reason for such a situation.

Note- Be cautious while installing cameras in your bedrooms and kids’ rooms as it can leave you & your loved one’s in embarrassing situations at some point of time if you cannot follow the basic cyber hygiene principles.
