UK Commits £1 Billion to Launch Digital Targeting Web Cyber Program

The United Kingdom, under Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s leadership, has announced a £1 billion investment in the launch of the Digital Targeting Web, a government-led military initiative designed to conduct offensive cyber operations against hostile foreign actors.

The UK Ministry of Defence also revealed plans for a new Cyber and Electronic Command Center, which will operate under the leadership of the National Cyber Force. This move signals a strategic pivot to strengthen the country’s cyber defense and offensive capabilities.

Given that the UK remains one of the most frequently targeted nations by state-sponsored cyber attacks, this new initiative aims to bolster its cybersecurity posture. The Digital Targeting Web will respond to escalating cyber threats with retaliatory actions, all carried out with full political and military oversight.

ConnectWise Confirms Data Breach Ahead of IT Conference

Remote access software developer ConnectWise has confirmed a recent cybersecurity incident involving its ScreenConnect product, in which a small portion of customer data was compromised. In an official statement, the company assured stakeholders that the vulnerability was promptly patched and that additional security measures have been implemented based on the advice of forensic experts.

While software companies typically employ strong security practices, breaches still occur. Mandiant, the Google-owned cybersecurity firm tasked with investigating the incident, stated that many hacking groups maintain specialized teams dedicated to discovering and exploiting software vulnerabilities.

Notably, the breach occurred just a week before ConnectWise’s annual IT Nation Secure conference in Orlando, Florida, sparking widespread conversation among cybersecurity professionals and industry watchers.

Victoria’s Secret Hit by Ransomware Attack

A prominent ransomware group has claimed responsibility for a cyberattack on lingerie retailer Victoria’s Secret, threatening to release stolen data unless their ransom demands are met.

While the claim remains unverified, a Reddit user familiar with the situation confirmed that a cybersecurity incident did occur. The breach has since been contained, and all Victoria’s Secret Pink stores in the United States remain operational. The company expects its website to be fully restored early next week.

The attack appears to have affected only the brand’s U.S. operations, with UK-based stores and the broader business reportedly unaffected.

This incident follows a recent wave of cyberattacks targeting UK-based retailers including Marks & Spencer, Harrods, and Co-Op, raising concerns about the sector’s vulnerability to ransomware and data breaches.
