All these days we have seen ransomware groups publishing information related to their data steal on their official blogs. But now, the ransomware spreading gangs are seen promoting their hacking activity through Facebook ads.

According to KrebsOnSecurity, Ragnar Locker team targeted Italian Beer company Campari Group on November 3rd this year. But Campari stated that no data was compromised in the breach.

However, Ragnar Locker issued a media update through a Facebook ad saying that over 2TB data was stolen in the incident and the data will soon be sold on dark web as the Italian beverage firm has refused to pay the ransom.

When probed, the Facebook ad in discussion was paid by Hodson Event Entertainment company run by Chris Hodson. And when KrebsOnSecurity inquired about his link with the Chicago based Disco Jokey, he said that his Facebook account was hacked a few days back reaching out to over 7,150 Facebook users and generating around 770 clicks, yielding 21 cents per click to make $500 approx.

So, it confirmed that Ragnar Locker Ransomware spreading gang is hacking FB accounts to post updates of their malicious activity to the world.

Facebook has started an investigation on this note and will issue an update soon. And the fact is that the social media giant can be impeached for such incidents as it has failed to protect its user data from cyber criminals.

Note- Ragnar Locker Ransomware also hit Gaming firm Capcom on a recent note.
