Hackers promise not to spread ransomware to healthcare providers during Covid 19 epidemic

As the Coronavirus Pandemic is spreading like a wildfire, hackers have made a promise and a resolution that they will not target healthcare providers as it can severely hit the treatment of Covid-19 victims.

Ā

Meanwhile, the news is out that if in case a healthcare provider gets infected by a file-encrypting malware called ransomware, then security firms like Emsisoft and Coveware Inc have promised to offer free assistance to tackle the malware infection.

Ā

ā€œAt this juncture when the spread of Chinese Virus has turned into a pandemic, a ransomware attack on hospitals and healthcare centers can lead to significant loss of lifeā€, said Emsisoft in a blog post.

Ā

So, the two companies in the situation of crisis are willing to offer a free service and technical analysis of ransomware, leading to the development of decryption tools whenever possible like negotiating with hackers, transaction handling and recovery assistance.

Ā

And as some hackers will be heartless, the coming weeks will be crucial as a spike in the attacks is expected as most healthcare firms will be technologically weak due to work-from-home arrangements, BYOD policy initiation, and staff shortfalls.

Ā

Note-Ā It is a known fact that ransomware is a severe threat to businesses of all kinds as it not only locks down the data from access but also steals and sells data if the victim doesn’t pay a ransom. Well, in such cases life loss is not guaranteed. However, if a hacker hits healthcare provider when the whole world is in a health emergency, it can lead to severe human loss and even inconsolable situationsā€¦…isnā€™t it?
