American software company MobileIron which specializes in offering solutions related to Mobile Device Management and Enterprise Mobility Management has announced this week that it has been shortlisted for the ‘Best Mobile Security Solution’ award by the SC Awards Europe.

And the company is very much hopeful that it is going to bag the award in the said category as no other solution provider has dared to match the skills of its product suite.

In the enterprise world, business data which is being accessed from the cloud via mobile applications is extremely vulnerable to hackers. MobileIron Access acts as a security link gateway offering an authenticated path between the user and the cloud.

Some examples of the security risks solved by MobileIron
Access are as follows-

a.) Jailbroken Phone- Suppose, a jailbroken smartphone is being used by an employee to access data via an Office 365 mobile app. Then we can assume that the business data is being accessed via a hacked device.
b.) Not a completely managed device- To understand this scenario, let us suppose an employee connected to sales department downloads a Salesforce1 app to their spouse’s iPad. Then we can assume that the data is now lying on an unsecured device.
c.) Parasite app- A salesperson downloads one of the dozens of apps that use APIs to connect to the salesforce.com website. Then we can come to a conclusion that the business data is now on an unauthorized mobile app.

In the above said each scenario, the cloud service provider cannot guestimate if the device or app is non-compliant. And this is where MobileIron shows its ability by ensuring that only trusted apps on trusted devices can access services such as Office 365, Salesforce and other business cloud services.

The California-based company founded in 2007 by Bob Tinker is nowadays competing with high-profile competitors offering mobile security solutions. This includes Microsoft’s enterprise Mobility Suite, IBM, SAP, Blackberry, and Airwatch.

Note- SC Awards Europe, which is hosted by SC Magazine are given to companies which excel in the cyber security sector with their products and services. The winners in the allotted category will be chosen by an independent panel of judges, comprising of industry renowned information security professionals and will be announced at the SC Awards Europe Gala and Dinner on June 6th, 2017 at Old Billingsgate, London.
