Popular carding forum hacked and data leaked

A cyber attack that took place on a popular carding website dubbed ‘Swarmshop’ has reportedly leaked personal information of thousands of hackers.

According to Group IB, the hacking took place on March 17, 2021 and over 12,244 records containing admin along with sellers and buyers details were leaked in a cyber attack.

The attack also exposed data related to over 623,000 payment cards used in US, Canada, UK, China, Singapore, France, India, Brazil and Saudi Arabia along with Mexico.

Information is out that data of 69,590 US Social security numbers and an equal amount of Insurance numbers from Canada were also accessed by the cyber crooks.

Note 1- Carding is a kind of financial cyber fraud where cyber crooks use stolen credit card details to recharge prepaid cards of all sorts like gift cards, SIM cards, electric meters etc… and the fraudsters involved are called Carders. As most of the credit cards get cancelled as soon as they are lost, the carders need to test the information available with them before selling them to interested prospects on the dark web.

Note 2- Group IB is a Cybersecurity firm from Singapore that also offers computer forensics services to Interpol and Europol.

Note 3- Incidentally, SwarmShop was also hacked in January this year by a hackers group and the database containing sensitive records was published on a dark web. But there isn’t clarity yet on whether the two incidents are connected to each other.
