Artificial Intelligence to help against multi stage Cyber Attacks

Zero day attacks are a serious threat to computer networks, and a recent research says that the attacks can be curbed with the use of machine learning algorithms. In fact, security analysts say that the tool can prove as a cost effective solution to defend organizations from the present day cyber threats.

A research carried out by Cisco Talos says that it takes approximately 15 days time for a victimized company to come out of the repercussions of cyber attacks. So, companies cannot defend their IT infrastructure just by using traditional defenses and so are facing billions of dollars damage as it requires technical expertise to bail them out of the serious situations.

Cybersecurity researchers from Pennsylvania have developed an automated software tool that uses machine learning technology to raise the defense-line against modern day cyber threats.

Dubbed as Moving Target Defense (MTD) the newly developed innovation helps in proactively defending the corporate networks eliminating expensive use of hardware and software.

Developed by Minghui Zhu, associate professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Institute for Computational and Data Sciences, the new tech allows network admins to detect vulnerabilities in Windows in a quick time frame.

However, there is a lot of research to take place in this reinforcement learning algorithm that has been developed by feeding large amounts of data to create an effective defense policy.

Note- The research is being sponsored by Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) that is been backed up by the US Department of Defense(DoD). And as a part of this funding initiative, the research will be awarded $1.5 million a year for next five years.
