From the past few hours social networking platform Facebook and its messaging sharing subsidiary WhatsApp and Instagram were down because of some unknown reasons. The disruption was felt mainly by users in North and South America; some parts of UK and Africa. And the outage existed even till the time this article was in writing.
Sources say that the outage hit Instagram first at 5 Pm ET and then showed its impact on other services such as Facebook and WhatsApp as well. Some experience a partial blackout or a total black out from Thursday evening.
Previously FB suffered a similar breach on March 19th,2021 and the impact hit almost all the users in the world for almost 4 hours.
Most users vented out their anger on Twitter by stating that they could not login into their accounts and cannot access fresh news feeds on the app and desktop sites.
The Mark Zuckerberg led company stated that the outage was purely technical and could have been occurred as more of the company users were working from home and were constantly spending more time on scrolling the site for updates.
Few users on Reddit say that the outage occurred because of a surge in the traffic that servers couldn’t take. Two users say that the disruption could have been caused by denial of service attacks where servers are bombarded by fake traffic.
Note- All these days we have seen people criticizing Twitter on Facebook and now they are busy tweeting their views about FB and other services being down…..funny isn’t it?
