Cyber Attacks on COVID 19 Vaccine producers in Japan

CrowdStrike, a US-based Cyber Security firm has disclosed that all the COVID 19 vaccine producers in Japan are at risk of being cyber attacked. The researchers of the firm have also confirmed that the attacks could be launched by some state-funded groups from China and Russia.

“As Pharma companies are competing against each other to produce the vaccine meant to contain coronavirus as soon as possible, the same is the situation in Japan as well. So, in the past three months, vaccine producers in Japan are being bombarded with malicious emails that are meant to induce spying malware into networks”, said Scott Jarkoff, the Director of CrowdStrike, Asia-Pacific Division.

Mr. Scott added that Japan has over 190 projects in the trial until late September and in the past two weeks many have reached the final stage of trial- as per the data collected and revealed by the World Health Organization.

So, hackers are showing a lot of interest in targeting Japanese vaccine producers as they can use the stolen details to produce their own medicine adds Scott.

Thus, Japan’s National Center of Incident Readiness and Strategy for Cybersecurity is urging vaccine producers to increase their defense-line to thwart cyber attacks as it can lead to critical information steal.

Note- Corona Virus aka COVID 19 started in China’s Wuhan City last November’19 and became a pandemic to spread across the world by March 2020 affecting more than 40 million people and killing nearly 8 million people on a worldwide note.
