Singapore tops the list of nations launching Cyber Attacks

Israel based Cyber Security firm Check Point Software Technologies has listed Singapore as a top nation which launches most cyber attacks on global IT infrastructure. Thus, the small Asian country has overtaken developed nations like Russia, China, United States and the UK on this aspect.

Eying Wee, a spokesperson from Asian Pacific’s division of Checkpoint Technologies has disclosed the news to the world and said that the discovered facts are not a starling. As Singapore happens to be an internet hub from where traffic flows to & fro,
Wee feels that nation’s ability to top the list is obvious.

In order to be on a safer side, last year the Singaporean government decided to set up a new Defense Cyber Organization (DCO) to monitor and defend the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) networks from cyber attacks. In February this year, the DCO became administratively active and is said to have so far safeguarded the defense sector from more than 15 million cyber threats of all variants.

On the other hand, the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore, which oversees cybersecurity strategies taken up by Public and Private sectors in Singapore views this set of the story in a different point of view. It says that topping the list doesn’t mean that all the cyber attacks have originated from the said South East Asian nation.

Since Singapore acts as a technology hub to undersea internet cables, much of the internet traffic flows through the country. Means all the cyber attacks recorded as coming from Singapore may have been actually launched outside the country
